• A study in tidiness

    Calm and collected

    Some people place a lot of store on tidiness. It brings to mind certain sayings that have stuck with me since boyhood:
    ‘Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul’ – Mark Twain;
    ‘A place for everything and everything in it’s place’ –  Mrs Wood my primary school teacher;
    ‘Oi, pick yer socks up!’ – My mum at bedtimes.
    Perhaps thanks to all those Keep Britain Tidy campaigns back in the day (as they say) something must have sunk in because I’m now reasonably tidy – at least in the office. Somehow, having a desk encourages you to think in an ordered fashion, so why don’t we all have one in our homes? They don’t have to be in an officey setting – this one’s very discreet.
    And hey look, I’ve just found another quote: ‘Creative minds are rarely tidy’. Doh, never believe what you read…
