    Friday’s Fetish: luxe laundry

    by  • May 7, 2010 • Best of the rest • 2 Comments

Now I know that the words ‘luxe’ and ‘laundry’ are not often placed in the same sentence, and even more rarely put under the heading of something that, by definition, means something excitable – but look! If these feel-good laundry buys and laundry room decorating ideas are not enough to encourage us to get cleaning, I don’t know what is?

And I’m not sure I’m not the only woman who would happily trade off ironing their other half’s shirts with permission to buy the latest ‘necessary’ buys – like cute vintage ‘laundry room signs’ … they’re essential for a good clean, right?

    roomenvy - happy laundry days!

    Kitchen diner ideas

    by  • April 28, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 5 Comments

Anyone planning a kitchen update? Not everyone’s lucky enough to have an extra room to use as a dining space, so why not combine the two? This morning I’ve been inspired by Housetohome‘s three kitchen-diner looks. They’re perfect for family breakfasts; informal dinner parties; or the times when your friends are round, you’re preparing dinner, and you simply cannot BEAR the thought of missing out on the gossip.

I love the contrast between the sleek modern kitchen units and white walls, and the warm oak table and benches with fuchsia seat covers.

This is more modern than most country kitchen schemes, but I LOVE the traditional dresser, and shots of blue against the white furniture.

    Smart contemporary kitchen-diner

This kitchen-diner has oodles of glam, with smart soft furnishings and shots of rich green.

Can I come in? The ultimate floating home

    by  • April 26, 2010 • Cool kitchens, Stylish living • 2 Comments

That’s it, I dont feel I deserve to complain about my small flat anymore, especially considering the great use of space in this funky floating home. I’m not saying that I’m quite ready enough to abandon London city living in favour of a riverboat, but I was suitably impressed by this seemingly spacious narrowboat, designed by Dominique Brown.

And of course, it’s all about kitchen storage. Hang hooks and pots to stash kitchen utensils, and leave no cubby unturned!

'The Room I Envy' by Linda Barker

    by  • March 9, 2010 • 'The Room I Envy' by ... • 2 Comments

roomenvy - Linda Barker envies ...

“I love this pink kitchen belonging to Sophie Conran. It’s a fabulous kitchen belonging to someone who is super stylish, but someone who’d not afraid of being a little off-the-wall and bohemian. It’s a confident space that’s not too showy or overworked.

I’m sure it’s a space that reflects the people who use the room, principally children. The bold pink suggests that this is someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously, it’s a lot of fun whilst still being a room where some serious cooking can take place.

It looks to me as if the kitchen is really at the heart of this home, a grown up space that nods at childish pleasures and belonging to an individual spirit who does things or her terms and no-one else’s”

Amen to that Linda! Hungry for more of her decorating tips, join her at the Ideal Home Show from 20th March.

    Design ideas for small kitchens

    by  • February 18, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 1 Comment

What can I say? All this lusting after beautiful country-style kitchens has left me determined to update my own. Sure I don’t have beams, traditional features and a polka-dot Emma Bridgewater range cooker (not that I’d turn one away, mind) but that doesn’t mean I can’t make the most of my space – however mini it is!

I just have to leave a butter knife out in my kitchen and it appears cluttered, so my first job is updating my storage. If you’re in the same pickle as me, check out these fantastic clutter-busting layout and storage solutions from housetohome.

    The mini kitchen triumphs again!

    How sneaky is this kitchen?!

    by  • January 28, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 0 Comments

How cool is this quirky little kitchen from freshhome.com? It actually FOLDS AWAY! Ideal if you’re short on space, and even better if  you want to hide away all the washing up.

It was made by LOGOS as part of their Cooking and Living series. The challenge was to create a living area for a young lady who wanted a spacious apartment. I wonder if they’d do the same for me??

    Updating a kitchen alcove

    by  • October 22, 2009 • Cool kitchens • 0 Comments

A recent comment on my ‘updating an alcove‘ post really got me thinking about the best way to make use of your kitchen alcoves. While I appreciate Linda Paul‘s views that alcoves look better  filled with artwork like the ones from her design studio, I often feel obligated to cram as much storage into them as possible? I see that spare space watching me, eager to have some purpose!

Personally, I prefer this kitchen alcove idea. Who knew a utility cupboard could be such a thing of beauty? Clever hooks and storage boxes make this the perfect place for all your essentials – maybe it’ll even make household chores easier? … if only!

3 reasons why I LOVE the Cath Kidston oilcloth lining idea

    1) It pretties up the bespoke white Jali cupboard to create instant country cottage cuteness

    2) It protects the shelf surfaces from the markings and stains of cleaning products (as if getting the stain out in the first place wasn’t battle enough?)

    3) There is nothing that screams domestic goddess more than being able to match your apron to your storage cupboard lining!! If there is, i’d certainly like to hear it!

    Recognise this kitchen?

    by  • July 22, 2009 • Cool kitchens • 0 Comments

Yes I know, I ought to be working, but the ‘What TV Series did these kitchens star in?’ quiz on casasugar was just too distracting this morning. Here’s a kitchen from one of my all-time favourite shows, i’ll give you a clue – it’s as fashionable and stylish as the gorgeous kitchen units … but a lot more cheeky.
